No Fasting Health Screening Tests

Fasting was once a requirement for certain Cholesterol and Diabetes tests. However, in recent years, the Ministry of Health (MOH) introduced changes to population-level* Cholesterol and Diabetes screening recommendations in Singapore based on a review of local and international evidence, and the endorsement of relevant professional bodies.

Diabetes

Fasting is not required for LDL or bad cholesterol testing. Avoid alcohol and fatty meals 12 hours before the screening to prevent an increase in triglycerides affecting LDL levels.

Cholesterol

HbA1C* is a non-fasting blood test that detects your average blood glucose levels over 3 months. As per MOH guidelines, your doctor may order this instead of a fasting blood glucose test.

*Not suitable for individuals with Anemia or a history of high triglyceride levels.

Regular health screenings can detect, prevent and slow chronic disease progression.
